Ukrainian
journalist seeking hockey heroes for "Go Ukes
Go"
The following is from the Chernyk email bag. Please contact
us if you have any information to contribute.
Hello
from Ukraine Chernyk,
I am
Andriy Seck from Kyiv, Ukraine. I'm the journalist.
I am
the fan of hockey & NHL. Recently I began write the
book about so-called ukie-players. Title "Go, Ukes,
Go! The chronicles of the great victories". It will
tell about players whose grandfathers were born in Ukraine,
and left in USA or Canada in 1890-1940 years. I located
(via internet and phone's books) a lot of ukes or their
relatives in Canada.
Other
subject of the book - history of Galician hockey before
WWII.
On the
web site of Ukrainian sport club "Chernyk" I
did read the information on Roman Kalytiak who in 1956
organized Ukrainian hockey team in Detroit. I know that
this man played hockey on the Western Ukraine in 1930th
and after war in Europe (as people from camps of "displaced
persons"). I search information about Roman Kalytiak
and other players who left Ukraine under the pressure
of Soviet Moscow. Also I want know in more details about "Flying
Ukes" and about great visitors of club Metro Prystai,
Tony Leswick, Vic Stasiuk and Terry Sawchuk in early
of 1950th.
I not
found on the 2003 Board of Directors name of hockey coordinator/director.
Do you can help me? Maybe you can give me email of person who can help me?

regards, Andriy.
